REC x Gelati! Gelati!

Gelati! Gelati!, masters of artisan ice cream from Bizkaia, created a special popsicle for 2025 edition —for the third year running. It's a red, circular popsicle that responds to the iconic flashing of the cameras, —rolling!—, with a classic flavour that never fails: biscuit, cream and red chocolate!

Playlist x Raül Refree

In 2025 edition of REC, we explored themes such as memory and what lingers in our recollections. Music often serves as a bridge to images from the past—a trigger for memories, whether solitary or shared, joyful or sorrowful. This is precisely what composer Raül Refree offers in this exercise in intimate memory: an eclectic playlist that we invite you to discover and enjoy.

Raül Refree

Born in 1976 in Barcelona, Raül Refree is a musician, composer and producer. He is one of the most relevant names in the Spanish and Catalan music scenes. He has been a member of the bands Corn Flakes, Romodance, Sitcom and Élena. As a composer and musician, he has released several albums, including Nones (2003), La otra mitad (2018), El espacio entre (2023), Los Ángeles (2017, with Rosalía Vila) or Granada (2014, with Sílvia Pérez Cruz). As a producer, he has worked with Lee Ranaldo, Guitarricadelafuente, Rodrigo Cuevas, Kiko Veneno and C. Tangana, among many other artists, projects for which he has received two Latin Grammys. He has also composed soundtracks for films and series, including Entre dos aguas (Isaki Lacuesta, 2018), recognized with the Gaudí Award for Best Soundtrack in 2019, Un año, una noche (Isaki Lacuesta, 2022), with which he won the Gaudí Award for Best Soundtrack in 2023 or the award-winning series La Mesías (Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo, 2023). He has also participated as a screenwriter, composer and performer in the documentary Muyeres by Marta Lallana (2023). In 2008 he received the Ciutat de Barcelona Award for his contribution to the music scene.

You can enjoy the La imagen y sus consecuencias section, featuring films like the recently released Black Box Diaries (2024) by Shiori Ito or Network (1976), a classic by Sidney Lumet about the power of television, ratings, and, of course, images. In Detener la memoria, you'll find gems like All the Beauty and the Bloodshed (2022), a marvelous and haunting documentary by Laura Poitras about Nan Goldin. Grabarse a uno mismo para entender mejor el mundo includes films such as The Super 8 Years (2022), an extraordinary work by Annie Ernaux and her son, David Ernaux-Briot, in which the writer revisits memories through home videos. And finally, in Reimaginar las normas, we find the greatest film in cinema history according to Sight & Sound, Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles (1976) by Chantal Akerman, which explores the often stifling domestic world of women, or the groundbreaking Tangerine (2015) by Sean Baker, who used new technology in 2015 to tell the story of a trans woman sex worker.

Pepa Blanes

Born in Elda, Alicante, in 1985, Pepa Blanes lives and works in Madrid. She holds a degree in Journalism from the Complutense University of Madrid and a Master's degree in Sociocultural and Gender Analysis. Pepa has worked in different media, including Diario Información, Europa Press, Movistar Plus and Cadena SER. She directs the film and series programme El Cine en la SER and since 2019 she has been Head of Culture at the same radio station. She was deputy director of the programme La Script on Cadena SER as well as the programme Ver-Mú on Movistar Plus. She presented, together with María Guerra, La Script also on Movistar Plus and has published articles in press and magazines such as Cambio 16, Ctxt, Caimán and Líbero. As an autor, she published Abre los ojos, películas y series para entender el mundo.

The Fish Doorbell

In the heart of Utrecht, there is a manually operated lock. When the gates are closed, fish are forced to wait, losing valuable time and energy, making them easy prey for birds and predatory fish. To help the fish, an underwater camera was installed in the lock. If fish appear on the screen, you can ring the bell! This action alerts the sluice gatekeeper, who will open the gate when many fish are waiting.

The Fish Doorbell is an initiative of the municipality of Utrecht, Hoogheemraadschap De Stichtse Rijnlanden (HDSR), and Mark van Heukelum of Dutch Wallfish. The municipality of Utrecht and HDSR manage and maintain the water quality in the Vecht, Kromme Rijn, and Utrecht’s canals.
