Marcos López
Sireno del Río de La Plata

The objective of his present work is the redefinition of myths, icons and universal works of art from the South. This powerful image, presented for the third time but in a different location and context during Getxophoto 2009. Look for it out at sea through the Aixerrota telescope. In Lopez's words: "El Sireno del Río de La Plata is an underdeveloped mermaid-man. A poor imitation of the Little Mermaid in Copenhagen, a metaphor of the outskirts. It turned up one morning in the waters of Rio de La Plata. The river without banks that looks like the ocean. The river the conquerors crossed to seek the gold of the vast America. The mermaid-man is an illusion. A fished man who survives in the polluted waters of underdevelopment."
