Liyu + Liubo
The Victims

In 2007, Liyu + Liubo gathered a new collection of violent incidents appearing in the news under the title of The Victims, as it is a very common term in the journals. The mass media include a great variety of people in this role: murderers, dead people, thieves, prostitutes, suicide victims, troublemakers, doctors, patients, husbands, wives, old people, businessmen, immigrant workers and town people. Many victims, wounded and insulted, get only the ambiguous label of “disfavoured people”, while some others rebel against the violent and go over to the other side. This system of social disparity is causing the mental attitude of the victim prevailing over all the community.
Liyu was born in 1972 in Wuhan, Hubei Province, and Liubo in 1977 in Shishou, Hubei Province, China. Both studied Fine Art at universities in Hubei Province. Their photographs, which are always staged around local current affairs, have previously been exhibited only in Chinese museums and galleries. This is the first time they are showing their work outside their country and in Europe.
