All her works deal with a common theme: paranoia. This series refers to suspense states: danger lurks, not as an event, but as a hypothesis. What charges the scenes with tension is the supposition of imminent danger. These portraits are familiar, domestic scenes from upper- middle class life in Buenos Aires. The common element is the presence of a revolver. Potential is, by definition, something that may occur, but it also means something that has its own power or strength. This second interpretation takes us from the artist’s reflection to the question the image itself suggests: is it power that one feels with a weapon in their hand?

Ananké Asseff was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1971. She works as a visual artist in the field of photography, video-installations and interactivity. She has won several awards, such as the Academy of Media Arts KHM scholarship, in Germany, and has been resident artist at The Banff Centre for the Arts, in Canada.
