"The title suggests nostalgia. Perhaps, but that is not its sole intention. Forgotten memories? Why? Because many of them are simply not readily accessible to our eyes and our understanding; because, often, we do not keep them in mind when shaping a world in keeping with our roots; because, in short, there are things that are perhaps best forgotten.

The past, however, is always there, stubborn and impossible to change, yet full of lessons and clues to the future, waiting, perhaps, for us to build a better world. The present vanishes in an instant and the future is yet to come. Only the past outlives us."

Konrado Mugertza

Konrado Mugertza was born in Eibar, the Basque Country, in 1955. He got interested in photography from a very young age, he began his career as a photographer at the age of 25. In 1983, he joined the active photography group Getxo Irudi Taldea and won several awards both in the Basque Country and in Spain. He has exhibited in Chicago, Denver and Reno (4 Basque Photographers). His images were projected in large format during the opening of the Bilbao Guggenheim Museum (1997). His photographs have been published in the following books: Autorretratuak (1988), Hormetako Adierazpena Bizkaian (1989), Getxo (1999) and Bizkaia Kosta (2001).
